Tale
The Maynards and their children lead an almost perfect billionaire family life. Amon is an avid hunter, but he doesn’t shoot animals because the family fortune allows them to live completely free of consequences.. Ayn Rand: The point is, who’s going to stop.
I watched this at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival
I?. Filmmaker Daniel Hoesl and Juliane Niemann clearly have an interesting satirical take on the wealthy class, and while there are some good ideas, it feels underdeveloped and not as powerful as the movie believes. The production designs, camera and color presentation are superb and very beautiful as they help capture the atmosphere and essence of the characters.
I don’t feel as invested or interesting to emotionally connect with
The direction from Hoesl and Niemann, while slightly messy, have a clear vision of the style and atmosphere they’re going for. Many of the shows are solid, with a few kids shows being a little weak. The narrative is a good concept, but unfortunately it feels as strong as it thinks it is because the narrative feels underdeveloped with some of the themes and the characters don’t.
Overall it’s not bad as there are some moments I appreciate
As if there are some good ideas that haven’t reached the potential they want. There are certain moments that are shocking, edgy and quite bizarre, and I understand where the filmmakers and their vision are coming from. But it doesn’t feel fully earned and the style seems far too similar to something from Ruben Ostlund or Michael Haneke.
